The premise behind why the magazine focuses on Snoopy and Woodstock rather than the main characters of Peanuts, like Charlie Brown, was to focus on a larger-than-life persona. Especially with Woodstock, there is so much personality that a fashion magazine can depict because of the birdies flare.

Without a doubt the friendship and interactions that these two share with one another throughout the comics and shows is unprecedented. The banter back and forth is particularly shown when the combination of the two buddies is prevalent in the final spread. The resting place for true friendship is all about living and making memories together.

What I Learned

I learned that art direction takes into consideration all details from the ideating phase, execution, and even the scheduling of shoots with models. The constant changes that need to be endured are shown through what may or may not work within a given photoshoot.

Being adaptable is the strongest quality I took on in this role. This little idea that spawned out of love for Peanuts, turned into a full operation that included so many resources, decisions, and people to create a fashion magazine that showcases all these exemplary qualities.

Experience the life of Snoopy and Woodstock separately as their unruly friendship will surely bring them back together in some fashion—no pun intended ;). The teaser showcases the couture pieces that are represented in the Beagle & Birdie Magazine, where two friends coexist with one another by the end.

Piecing the Story Together

The backbone of this magazine is built through the entire process. From the beginning steps of ideation to the preliminary set design, or the multiple photoshoots for testing lighting, colors, and costumes. All of these factors warrant the necessity to try and try some more when art directing a magazine that is dedicated to shifting the perspective of classic Peanuts characters into a high-fashion magazine with elements of storytelling.

Explore the world of Snoopy and Woodstock, as the magazine went through multiple iterations of set design, costume design, test photography, and the addition of a physical moodboard. All of these elements are executed through solo art direction on every element that went into the making of this couture fashion magazine.
